Commissions
Create artwork that is unique to you
How does it work?
-
Our team will discuss the commission concept with you, following which a detailed brief of the artwork composition will be produced for the artist to use, with supporting material for reference. We will coordinate feedback from the artist and a quotation with a preliminary schedule for delivery.
-
Once the commission brief is accepted, a deposit of 50% will be required with the balance payment upon completion and acceptance.
-
Throughout the process, progress reports will be issued with photos of the artwork in progress. When the artwork is completed, our team will be able to help you with delivery, or a high resolution scan of the artwork for future use (i.e electronic file), or a framing service at our standard rates.
How long will it take?
A commission can usually be carried out within the time frame you set. The artist will arrange a schedule and we will keep you informed of how the commission is progressing.
How much will it cost?
Commissions generally cost more than an original piece of artwork by the same artist. This is due to the process and time it takes for them to create something bespoke for you, that they will not be able to reproduce in the form originals or prints. The benefit of a commission is that it it is unique and a personal piece which is priceless. We also have a few finance options which allows you to split the cost, interest-free over time.
What if I don't like the final piece?
Don't worry, this is highly unlikely to happen. We carry out a number of thorough consultations with you and the artist before the commission begins, so there is full communication and thorough understanding of your vision. If you enjoy the artist’s work, it is unlikely they will do anything but true justice to your piece.
What if I want to change something?
Throughout the process, we will keep engaging you and you will be informed of the progress of the work as it develops. We will agree at what stages you are able to make a change request. The artist will want to get it right for you as their client, so changes are usually carried out with the agreement of both parties.
Can I meet the artist?
Yes. The gallery team will arrange for a meeting with the artists in person if they are local upon request. Artists are usually more than happy to meet with you as their client. Occasionally, if the artist lives far away or is based abroad, it is not possible to meet in person, but its easy for us to arrange a video conference.

Personalized artwork that shows your personality
Whether its a family portrait, painting for your home, a centrepiece for your office, a painting of your favourite place, or a portriat of your loving pet, or maybe a statement ceramic installation for your walls, having an artwork commission gives you the freedom of choice for the subject matter, the colour pallete, the style, dimensions and the price of the artwork. Commissioning art is a very personal and special process and we at the R Young Art Gallery will help you along this special journey, making your vision come true.
We understand that sometimes you fall in love with a piece of artwork that perhaps the size isn't quite right, or the colour pallete doen't fit in your space, or it may have sold. Commissioning art is a unique and fun way of purchasing and personalising art.
